The degree of your hearing loss.
The first thing you should consider, when trying to evaluate how well you are doing compared to someone else, is the difference in the degree of hearing loss. For example if you are comparing a mild to moderate high-frequency hearing loss to someone who has a severe to profound flat hearing loss, as you would imagine there is going to be huge differences in perception of how they are doing. The amount of gain needed between someone with a severe loss compared to a high-frequency hearing loss is astronomical.
