Blaming Others For Your Hearing Loss?

No one can be held responsible for our own actions.  There is no one, except yourself, in control of your decisions that affect your life.  Acknowledging the affect only you can have on your life and health is called personal responsibility.  It is no one else’s responsibility to correct potential medical conditions except you.  Hearing loss is usually a medical condition that can be corrected with a simple visit to a hearing professional.  Untreated hearing loss can often worsen to the point of being irreparable.

In many cases of hearing loss the patient will live in denial for a very long time before even admitting there is a problem.  Patients will blame others for mumbling or whispering, to the point of becoming paranoid that people are doing these things on purpose.  It is not unusual for hearing loss patients to go for years allowing progressively worse hearing loss to affect every aspect of their daily life.  Spouses, friends and children can only make so many suggestions to go to the doctor without the patient feeling they are being constantly harried and harassed.  The only thing that usually comes out of those feelings is resentment.

Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible for those same children, friends and spouses to force the person with hearing loss to actually visit a hearing professional for a diagnosis.  Only a willing patient can make the appointment, see the hearing professional and actually follow their recommendations and treatment plans.  No one else can be responsible for taking charge of their hearing and overall health.  The sooner someone visits the doctor for diagnosis and treatment, the sooner they will feel relief from hearing loss.
