There Are Several Different Styles Of Hearing Aids Available

There are generally four different styles of hearing aids available for those suffering from hearing loss.  Each style is slightly different in functionality and size and should be selected for personal taste and based on the prescription provided by a hearing professional.  The different styles of hearing aids are available in digital models that can be custom programmed to a specific hearing test analysis.

One style of digital hearing aid available tucks in behind your ear.  Many manufacturers have miniaturized the size and can be invisible to anyone near the wearer.  This type is a behind the ear style and does, as the name implies, sit just behind the ear.  The portion behind the ear is a unit containing the electronics and battery and is connected to a small arm or tubing that hooks over the top of the ear.  Connected to the arm is the portion of the hearing aid which rests inside the ear canal and transmits sound into the ear canal.

Another style of digital hearing aid available is the style that fits in the ear (or ITEI), the instrument fills in the external ear.

An even smaller size of hearing aid available fits completely in the ear canal.  An advantage of an in the canal hearing aid (or ITC) is it is much less visible than an in the ear hearing aid.  Another advantage is the allowance of sound collection using the natural ear.  And of course much less noticeable in size.

The smallest available hearing aid is available as a digital aid that fits completely inside the ear (or CIC).  The only portion of the hearing aid that is visible to someone other than the wearer is a small wire that is required to remove the hearing aid from the ear canal.  The small protrusion is only visible to someone who is closely examining the ear.  This type of hearing aid is often the most desirable as it is the least visible and is still fully digital.

With these four styles of hearing aids available to those with hearing loss, there is no reason not to investigate using hearing aids.  It is no longer necessary to wear the traditionally bulky hearing aids even if you have a severe hearing loss to provide hearing clarity.  Anyone who has been diagnosed with any level of hearing loss should ask their hearing professional if a small digital hearing aid is an option.
