Are Hearing Aids a Sign of Genius?
An interesting question - especially during this time of economic uncertainty when not hearing well in any work environment could cost you your job. If this question were posed even ten years ago, the response you might have given would likely have been a negative one. You might have said, ‘No, hearing aids are ugly’ or ‘Are you kidding, they make me look old’.
We are seeing this as a time of great perceptional change, especially when it comes to wearing something in our ears. The major factor behind this shift is the popularity of personal communication devices these days. Almost everyone wears a Bluetooth devise, especially when driving, to be able to talk on the phone. Many states are legislating this and I think we all agree it will make our roads much safer. The other personal devices used today (iPods and mp3 players) have made it almost popular to have something in your ear.
If you were missing what customers or your boss was saying, would you think twice before getting help so you could communicate with confidence, no matter what your line of work?
Recognizing that communication is the most important element in any relationship, don’t you owe it to yourself to hear as well as you possibly can? Our relationships with other people can make our lives very rich and full of happiness and laughter. If you can’t hear what’s going on you probably spend more time feeling frustrated than happy. Doesn’t it stand to reason that if you can’t hear and are missing out on conversations you owe it to yourself to simply use a device that could allow you to communicate again?
We are all geniuses in our own way, wearing a hearing aid just lets us show it!
