Family Life and Hearing Aids

To me my family is what life is all about.

I recently returned home because of a death in the family, and I experienced first hand what patients have told me for years.  If someone in your family has a hearing loss and doesn’t get help for their hearing, life in any home can be challenging and unfortunately filled with resentment and hurt feelings.

My Mom is 80 and my father is 85, they lead very active and independent lives.  I believe one of the reasons they act like people in their 60’s is they both wear hearing aids.

When I arrived home I noticed my Mom was not responding to what I was saying in the way I expected.  After a couple of hours I asked her if she was wearing her hearing aids?

Well she wasn’t and after getting them and putting them on, Oh what a difference.  Her anxiety level dropped, she visibly changed to a very relaxed talkative happy person.  She told me how wonderful it was to hear during the service and afterwards with family members who came to the house after the service.  I just couldn’t believe the difference in her entire demeanor.  I’ve always know when Mom is happy the whole family is happy.

My father 85 still works everyday.  He works because he loves his work, I believe it’s because of his hearing aids that he is able to communicate accurately and still enjoy what he does.

Even though I have been told by almost every person who has purchased hearing aids what a positive change in their lives hearing better has brought to them.   Seeing it first hand and feeling so good about my parents both hearing and communicating better, which means they are happier, makes me feel really good.

Please have your parents get their hearing checked and if they have a hearing loss encourage them to get it corrected.  You won’t believe the difference what better communication can make in your family.
