Hearing aids and close relationships

I believe the quality of our lives to be dependent upon the quality of our relationships. Sometimes we don’t stop to think about what makes our lives happy and meaningful and I believe, as most experts do, it all comes down to the quality of our relationships.

Think for a moment who you are really close to. Almost everyone has a special relationship with their mate, maybe even a special friend, and I would venture to say that it’s the people at work you are the closest to that make your work environment enjoyable and even profitable.

My Grandfather once told me if I have 5 real friends in my life I would be a very wealthy man. At the time what he told me was way over my head. Now more than ever, I understand the wisdom of his words.

I don’t know anyone who wants to wear a hearing aid. I sure don’t want to. However the benefits they give me are just too great to not wear them. I could be like a couple of people I know who say they will never wear a hearing aid. I guess it all comes down to what’s important to you. I even know many people who, because they wouldn’t get help to correct their hearing loss, have literally cut themselves off from almost everyone. What’s also very typical in many families is the attitude of those trying to communicate to someone with a hearing loss. More often than not because of the struggle to just carry on a simple conversation they only talk to each other when they think they have to. I’ve been told by hundreds of people that if their mates doesn’t get help they don’t want to stay in the relationship.

What I have seen first hand over the last 35 years helping people hear better would absolutely floor you. What I can tell you for sure is getting a hearing aid to correct a hearing loss and having better relationships really and truly makes life better.

Please, if you have a hearing loss don’t put off getting your hearing checked and if need be get it corrected with a hearing aid.
